Rufus “R.J.” Bruner, Jr.
Rufus Bruner, a long-time member of the Laurel County Historical Society, donated his personal research collection. His information on various family lines is stored in notebooks on a shelf in the back, right hallway. There are over 80 of these books arranged in alphabetical order by surnames. He also donated 4 filing cabinets with folders containing family correspondence concerning genealogical research. These folders are arranged in alphabetical order. In addition to his personal collection R. J. also provided the Society some Gabbard/Gabbert family genealogical periodicals and Jonesboro, Tennessee Genealogical Society newsletters. These are located within boxes in our society’s collection room. Through the years Rufus has donated numerous photos. Mr. Bruner authored the book The Casteels of Southeast Kentucky which is available in our store.
